My son is at that wonderful age where taxes have entered his life. He and his young family have to file their first joint 1040. I offered to give them a hand and was shocked at the results.
Heres the math, my son paid about $750 is federal taxes last year. For which he will receive, by my calculation, a $2517 refund. More than 3 times what he paid into the system. On the state side he paid about 300 dollars in and would be getting over $1000 back.
Thinking I must have made a mistake, I plunked down the cash for a copy of Turbo tax and ran through the numbers again.
I was wrong but not in the way I expected. According to Turbo Tax he should have been getting a $5500 from his federal and $1200 from his state. So for his 750 paid in taxes he is seeing 733% paid back, out of the labors and profits of other people.

So if that is not wealth redistribution what is? Personally I was shocked.
